Conservation Week 2016
This is a presentation that I created with Mikayla and Milla. We had fun creating this even though we only had 45 minutes to finish it. We worked together well and we enjoyed it. Everything went great however, it was hard to describe what conservation is but in the end we completed it! Mirrors
This is a presentation that I created about mirrors. Before, I didn't know that much about mirrors so I learnt a lot of new things. It was great fun to create and I improved a lot in my digital work. What A Good Blog Comment Should Have - Padlet
This is a padlet that Room 5 and James Hopkins created to show what we thought a good blog comment should have. Everyone had similar ideas and some of us had original and creative ideas. I really enjoyed this because I learnt a lot about how I can create a good blog comment. Though, it was difficult trying to come up with ideas. In the end, it was great fun! My next steps are to use these ideas and suggestions to help me create a good quality blog comment on other blogger's posts.

Archibald Baxter - Narrative
Punished for My Beliefs
“Alright come on now! Hurry up or you’ll be shot!” the military policeman threatened.
As we moved closer and closer to the punishment field, thoughts were racing across my mind. ‘Am I going to die? I should’ve just joined the army. NO! You are NOT going to give in! You can win this battle. Just don’t give up! I am going to carry on being a conscientious objector.’
I knew what I believed in and I’m not going to change my mind.
As the time for my punishment came, I remembered all the good and bad memories I had when I was a young and active man. Most were blurry but there was one memory that I remembered like it was yesterday. I was resting down after a long day working at the farm. There was a radio beside me and I turned it on. I could hear a man with a deep and husky voice protesting against war. His words were the reason why I am against war. By the end of his speech I had decided that if there was ever a war I would not participate. I still stand by my decision.
Before I knew it, my hands were tied up tightly and my legs were off the ground. I was hoisted up on the post and tied like a pig on a spit. A wave of pain came over me while I struggled to hold on. I could feel myself weakening every second. Snow started to fall. A snowflake dropped onto my nose. Winter is here. The cold hits me like a slap in the face. A few minutes pass and my body was beginning to numb. At that moment, I wanted to just give up but a sudden urge came upon me to hold on and a feeling of courage gave me the strength I needed.
Hours passed and I was weaker than ever but my heart was filled with uncertainty and fear. In my mind, I was arguing with myself whether or not to fight in the war or to keep on fighting my own war. Everywhere around me, there was nothing but white lumpy snow. With only a pair of trousers, a shirt and a coat, my body was shivering wildly like leaves rustling in a storm. All I wanted to do was scream the pain away but my mouth seemed too numb to even move and I knew that if the guard heard one squeal I would be punished even more.
Just when I thought that I was going to die from the cold, the sun finally came out from hiding and its warmth shone upon me. In my mind, I was hoping that the Lord would answer my prayers and forgive me for doing what I believed was right. After what seemed like an eternity of pain I was released.
“Thank you Almighty Father! I am grateful for all the blessings! You have answered my prayers and never again will I doubt you and your marvellous acts!”

Thank You Letter To MindLab
Room 5 wrote letters to the MindLab saying all about our amazing experience we had learning about digital learning. It was so much fun and we learnt a lot about robotics and 3D printing.
Dear Damon and everyone working at the MindLab,
Thank you for welcoming Christ the King senior girls to the MindLab. All of us enjoyed our time there, learning how to 3D print and learning robotics. My favourite activity was the robotics. It was great fun and I had a blast!

While we were at the MindLab, there was something I found difficult. That was trying to understand the scientific language but other than that I had a really great time there and I hope that I can go and visit again soon!
My trip to the MindLab has inspired me to succeed in my studies and become an engineer and create my own robots.

Report On Oscar Romero
Oscar Romero was a very holy man. He was born in Ciudad Barrios, El Salvador on August 15th 1917. He had a big family that lived in a small home with not enough money, though they had more than most of their neighbours. As a young boy, Oscar was determined to become a priest. At the age of 14 he joined the Catholic priesthood. In the year 1977, he became Archbishop of San Salvador. A few weeks after he became Archbishop, his friend, Rutilio Grande was brutally murdered. The death of his friend changed the way Oscar felt and thought.
After Oscar changed, he felt an urge to change the way the poor and the oppressed were treated. He started public speaking and telling everyone about the ‘disappearances’ and murders of others. To help spread the message to everyone in El Salvador he spoke on a radio broadcast. By doing this, he gave hope to the people whose voices couldn’t be heard. While he was fighting for the oppressed and the poor, he angered the government and the rich and powerful. After some time, the government took matters in their own hands and blew up the radio broadcast headquarters. The day before Oscar died, he went to talk directly to the soldiers. He said to them “I beg you… I implore you…. I order… in the name of God, stop the repression!” The evening after, on March 24 1980, he was shot while taking a mass by an assassin who was working for the government.
The death of Oscar Romero caused many people grief and pain. Thousands of people attended his funeral. However, people died and hundreds were injured because the army opened fire at them. 12 years after his death, people found out that the ex-mayor of San Salvador, General Roberto D’Aubuisson, was the reason why Oscar Romero died. Oscar Romero was canonized on the 23rd of May 2015.

Letter To Mrs. Kopua
On Wednesday 8th June, Room 5 had a bake sale to help raise money for us to buy stuff that we could donate to a charity called Women's Refuge. Each one of us wrote a letter to send to our principal, Mrs. Kopua. Here is mine:
Dear Mrs. Kopua,
Room 5 are creating a care box for Women’s Refuge and other organisations. I was wondering if Christ the King could have a barbecue or a bake sale to help raise some money for Room 5 to buy some things we may need to make things donate to them.
I could ask one of my family members to volunteer to help with the sausage sizzle and the bake sale.
Could we please have it on Week 5 this term?

Dear Kidscan,
Last Friday, my school and I got to see some of the Warriors players. I was soooo surprised. I even got to get 3 prizes: A wristband, a waterbottle and a Warrior's sports bag!
Though, without you that wouldn't have been possible. I want to thank you so much for bringing them to Christ the King Catholic school. I think that it was the greatest surprise I ever had! Many kids in my school were all excited and couldn’t believe their eyes when 4 of the best rugby team entered the room. Thank you again!

Jesus Heals Peter’s Mother In Law
His hand warms my cold hand as he looks down at me with a kind, genuine and sincere smile. My heart rejoices at the sight of the Messiah's face. A splash of pain comes over me but I ignore it for I know the Lord will heal me from my dreadful illness. I see everyone staring at me, expecting me to suddenly revive from my illness. Jesus looks at me, his eyes twinkle like the stars in the night sky. His clothes are as white as the clouds in the noon sky. I feel the Holy Spirit in me, giving me strength once more.

The Treaty of Waitangi
The Treaty of Waitangi was signed by the European Crown and the Maori chiefs in 1840 in Waitangi. The Treaty was
signed because the Pakeha wanted power over NZ and the Maori chiefs were signing because they thought they would still have control. However, there was some confusion because the Maori and the Pakeha didn’t quite understand each other. After the Treaty was signed many Europeans immigrated to New Zealand. They started a government which excluded Maori. In 1867 the Maori were allowed to join the government but there were only 4 seats. This was unfair because even though Maori were part of the government, there were a lot more Europeans. After some time, the Europeans dishonored their promise to the Maori and confiscated most of their land and other belongings. By this time the Pakeha owned most of the South Island and ⅕ of the North Island. However, the Europeans wanted all of New Zealand. The Maori figured out a way to keep their land. They crowned a man king. His name was Te Wherowhero but when he became king he took the name Potatau. This led to the beginning of the New Zealand wars. The wars began in Taranaki in 1860. The war lasted for 1 year but other wars started in other places around NZ.
The British Crown and settlers committed group sin against the Maori by dishonoring The Treaty of Waitangi. One example of this group sin is confiscating land. The Maori and Europeans has different ideas about land ownership. Maori believed that groups (or tribes) of people belonged to the land, but the Europeans believed that only one person could own a piece of land. Europeans bought the land off the Maori people, and, later took the land through force. Maori had no land to live on so they became angry. Another example of group sin is the Europeans executing and detaining prisoners. The result of this was a decrease in Maori population. There was a lack of justice in this act. Many Maori lost their family members and their lives.
Christian people can restore tika and pono to the Treaty of Waitangi by learning Te Reo. By learning the native language, we could bring back Maori culture. Another way to restore tika and pono is continuing give back historical lands to the Maori through the Waitangi Tribunal. This would help resolve some grievances between the Maori and the Pakeha.
