How To Do A Water Clock Experiment
How to do Water Clock
Materials:
- Beaker
- Plastic cup
- A sharp object
- Water
- Bowl
- Water bottle (Optional)
- Paper Towels (Just in case of a mess)
- A book
Instructions:
- The first thing you have to do is create a little hole in the plastic cup. To do this, you use a sharp object. My group and I used a safety pin.
- Then, add water to the cup. You can use a water bottle to pour the water for minimum mess.
- In this experiment, my group timed the water clock for 15 mins and waited. Though, you can choose a different time.
- After it is 15 mins, you measure how high the water dripped into the beaker. Then, write down the results into a book so that you can record your experiment and calculate the average once the experiment is finished.
- Pour the water into a bowl. Refill the plastic cup again with water.
- Wait 15 minutes again. Then, measure the amount of water in the beaker and record it down in the book.
- Do this experiment 3x. When the experiment is finally completed, find the average of the totals. Once, the average is found, see if your results are accurate or inaccurate.
1st Attempt
The water was dripping faster than we expected it to drip. After 8 minutes, the water surprisingly stopped dripping so we loosened the cup from the beaker. Then the water suddenly dropped fast again. Our results were about the same as the first, 110 mls.
2nd Attempt
The second attempt was different from the first. Sometimes, the water didn't move so Tino moved the cup to let the water come down again. The results were 110 mls
3rd Attempt
Our third attempt was similar to our second attempt. The water stopped from time to time and we kept loosening the cup. Though, the results were very different. 80 mls was our results.

Japan Report
Japan is located in the centre of Asia. The capital of Japan is Tokyo. Tokyo has a population of approximately 13.35 million. From 794 through 1898, the Emperor of Japan lived in Tokyo. That is one reason why Tokyo is the capital. Another reason why is, after the year 1868, the seat of government of Japan was located in Tokyo.
Japan’s population is greater than France’s population. Though, they have a very little country. It is about the size of New Zealand. In 2012, the population was about 127.6 million. The next year, the population decreased to 127.3 million. In 2014, the population went down. It was 127 million.
Japan’s currency is called a Japanese Yen. A Yen is about $0.012 N.Z dollars. A Japanese Yen has a special symbol that looks like this: ¥.
The national flower of Japan is the chrysanthemum. Though, most people believe it is the Sakura. It is also known as the Cherry Blossom. The chrysanthemum is a flower that has a lot of pedals that layer each other.
Mt. Fuji is the tallest mountain in Japan. It is thought to be one of the 3 sacred mountains. The other two are Mt. Tate and Mt. Haku. Mt. Fuji is considered a beautiful landscape. It is one of many attractions in Japan.
History of Japan:
Paleolithic people from the Asian mainland settled in Japan 35,000 years ago. About 10,00 years ago, a new culture was developed in Japan which was called Jomon. Japan was introduced to metalworking, rice cultivation and weaving by Yayoi people in 400 B.C. Scientists have estimated that the Yayoi people were travellers from Korea.
During the Asuka period, Buddhism came to Japan and so did Chinese writing. Japan never had a government to tell the people what to do. However, from 710-794, a government developed. In 1185, Samurai’s took over governmental power. Samurais were also called ‘shoguns’. One strong emperor strived to overthrow shogunal government in the year 1331. The results ended up in a civil war between northern and southern courts. The war finally came to a halt in 1392. 1868 was when a new constitutional monarchy developed and the head was the Meiji Emperor. This means that the shogun's governmental power was broken.
When the Meiji Emperor passed away, his son took over and became Emperor. During his reign, Japan conquered Korea and the northern part of China during the time of World War 1.
The Showa Emperor knew what was going to happen in World War 2. During World War 2, America dropped the world’s first ever atomic bomb on 2 cities, Saki and Hiroshima which led to Japan’s surrender. Now, Japan has changed because America took over Japan. Japan is now a big and busy city. There are large amounts of buildings and shops.

My Comparison of the Past and the Present
This is a comparison I did on the past and present. The past and present are very different but we still have some similarities. Soon the future will be the present and the present will be the past.

Chocolate vs Child Labour
Chocolate Vs Child Labour
There are chocolate companies that are using children as slaves to work for their company. Companies like Hershey's, H.B Reese Candy Company and Nestle. This may seem like a big lie but it is the cold truth. Some of you may enjoy the chocolates that these companies make so you might not like the truth, the scandals these companies have been doing. These three companies have been trafficking children and forcing them to work for their company.
Nestle Statement:
Nestle has investigated a long term cocoa plan in West Africa. It is already making a positive difference to farmers lives, their families and the community all over the world. This plan involves 12 million higher yielding cocoa plants so farmers get better yields and prices. They also get farmer field training as well as significant social development projects that improve communities access to education and basic needs such as water and food.
Whittaker's Statement:
The Whittaker’s company does not approve any action of child labour. They are sure that they are supporting the work that’s being led in Ghana through organisations. For example:Fairtrade and the World Cocoa Foundation are organisations in Ghana. These organisations ensure that the cocoa is growing in a social and responsible environment. The beans that Whittaker’s use are imported from Madagascar as well. Though, only a small quality is used for Whittaker’s Milk Madagascar product. The entire cocoa industry in Ghana goes through a certification process to make sure that the cocoa is growing responsibly without any abusive child labour. The process is supervised by the International Cocoa Verification Board. In 2007, the report from the pilot study showed no evidence of children being bound on cocoa farms. This will damage the children’s education. There are 800,000 cocoa farms in Ghana that are working for Whittaker’s. However, there is still no proof that kids are being forced to work for them. Whittaker’s check that the ingredients are ready before they export the cocoa to Fairtrade.
Cadbury Statement:
Cadbury believes that any action of child labour is unacceptable. Their company are investing 45 million British dollars over a decade. The money is used to pay for the cocoa to grow better. It is also used to pay for their investments. The investment is to help bring an end to child labour. The audit’s results within the ‘Chocolate - The Bitter Truth’ documentary prove that the Fairtrade system is capable of handling the issues that it was addressed to. New Zealand and Australia import most of their cocoa from Ghana and South East Asia. They do not hire any workers directly. Though, N.Z and Australia do not own any cocoa farms as well. Cadbury told Sunday that in order for anybody to make a 100% guarantee that there is definitely no children being forced to work, someone would have to be on every cocoa farm in Ghana and South East Asia for 365 days, 24 hours a day. There are about 1.5 million farms in West Africa altogether. They know that traditionally, children help their family on the farm. However, Cadbury does not want this to get in the way with the children’s education and to protect them from any harm. That is the reason why Cadbury is subsidizing 45 million GBP over 10 years in the Cadbury Cocoa Partnership.

Google Cardboard Report
What is Google Cardboard?
Google Cardboard is a new invention that scientists created by using plain cardboard. Google Cardboard lets you go to different places while you stay in one place! This is a plan that is ‘Virtual Reality’. Google Cardboard has shocked many people around the globe. I, myself is amazed by how this new technology allows us to experience different cultures.
How does it work?
Google Cardboard has to be constructed by you when you buy it. Once it is built, place your Iphone inside a slide and that will be your screen. Look through the lenses and then go to menu. There are a variety of options you can choose. For example: Tour Guide, Earth, Youtube and more. To move the screen, move your head up, down, left and right. It will look as if you are in the photo. You can explore places you have never been in!
What is it made of?
Google Cardboard is mainly made of Cardboard. Though, the lenses are glass and there is also some metal pieces. For example: there is a button on the left side that you pull it up and down to run through the menu and other things. The button is made out of metal and is shaped as a little circle.
The lenses and everything else comes with Google Cardboard in one package. All except the Iphone. You need to buy the Iphone.
How much is Google Cardboard?
A Google Cardboard dodocase costs about $20. Androidcentral.com states ‘You can use your existing Iphone and build a viewer with $4.00 worth of parts and a pizza box.’
The Google Cardboard needs an Iphone so if you do not have one, you may want to buy one. An Iphone costs about $90 US dollars. You also need to download or buy the app.

My Evaluation Of This Year's Work
Evaluation of the year’s work - work in Reading, Inquiry (Science.
What did I learn?
I learnt about respect and adaptability. I also learnt lots of things about plants. How they reproduce and how the bees and other insects help the plants. We also learnt love and service, joy & social justice and we also learnt about planets, social justice, the dark side of chocolate, social issues, sustainability of resources and animals.
Why were you learning it?
We learnt about respect because it was the value of the term. We studied about plants because it was our main focus for that term and we also learnt how plants and other animals adapt. We learnt about all those values because those were the values for these terms and help develop your love for God.
How is that learning going to help you?
Learning about the topics for the term help us understand how we live and grow and help us look after nature better. I think that we learnt about all these values because when we grow up we will have to use these values and make us a better person towards others, it is good to know how you can use them in life.
What am I pleased about?
I am pleased that this was a great year. I enjoyed learning the topics we learned and I am so happy that I finished all the work I did. The thing I loved doing the most was blogging and commenting.
Who helped you in your learning?
My parents, my teacher, my classmates and friends. The people in my class are very kind and they will always help me with anything I don’t understand, the same with my parents.
What do I need help with?
I need help with my grammar and finalizing my work. I also need help to understand the topic sometimes. I also need help being organised with my report, ideas and research.

My Message For Mrs. Sullings
This is a message I wrote for Mrs. Sullings. Mrs. Sullings taught me in Year 2 - 3. I loved being in her class and now she is retiring. I will miss you Mrs. Sullings! May God bless you!
The Future and Past
I wonder what the future might be. Maybe, there will be flying cars that can zoom as fast as a cheetah can run. This way, if people are running late they don't have to be late for their job or school. There might be all new technology that can help students with schoolwork and there will be robots working like humans. They could be serving in restaurants and working as butlers. Maybe they will teach in schools instead of humans. If this happens, kids could be able to learn a lot because robots may be more intelligent than humans. I don't know what will happen.
Sometimes I do imagine what happened in the past. What if they didn’t finish something that could change the world. Perhaps people weren't so different from now. They could have had tools like the tools we have today. They could have had the same methods of engineering and architectural.

Prayer For Students
Wonder your patronage, dear mother,
and calling on the mystery
of your Immaculate Conception,
I desire to pursue my studies
and my literary labors:
I hereby solemnly declare
that I am giving myself

to the following end:
That I may better contribute

I pray you, therefore,
most loving Mother
who are seat of Wisdom,
to bless my labors
in your loving-kindness.
Moreover, I promise with true affection
and a willing spirit,
as it is right that I should do,
to ascribe all the good
that shall come to me, therefrom,
wholly to your intercession for me
in God’s holy presence.
Amen.
