What is Matariki

Matariki is the celebration of the Maori new year. In the Maori new year it is a time when plenty of crops are harvested and fish are caught and are cooked ready for dinner. The people gather together and tell each other stories. Every New year a cluster of stars is shown but in many stories there are 7 stars. We can only see 7 stars with our naked eye. Matariki is actually the name for the stars in the sky.
