Son of Slappy is a book about a boy, named Jackson Stander, who never gets into trouble unlike his sister, Rachel who always tries to get her big brother into some sort of trouble. Jackson comes across a ventriloquist dummy from a visit from his grandpa. Grandpa Whitman. During his stay there, he finds a large collection of all sorts of dummies. However, one dummy stood out from all the rest, it was Slappy. Slappy wore a gray suit and shiny black shoes. When it was time for the siblings to go back home, the dummy was found in Jackson's suitcase. Ever since, Jackson's life has been tough. He went from good to bad. Jackson tried to get his old life back.

I found this book interesting because of how the author described the detail. I also like this book because it was very convincing, it made me believe that I was actually there with Jackson. My favourite part was when Jackson did all the mischievous tricks on his family and friends. Although, one stood out for me. It was the part when Jackson put honey on a jumper, that was a gift from his favourite aunt and uncle. He then blamed it on his sister, but his mum didn't believe him, so he got into big trouble.

Imagine, the world without any forests and trees. It would be terrible. Do we really need to cut down trees? Do people realize that it is important to have them around? Why won’t the governments do something about this? Centuries ago there is about 60% of forests on earth. Now,  10% of the forest is left.

Deforestation is one of the worst problems in the world. Consequently, if this goes on, we will have no trees that give us oxygen. We need to live. If trees are gone, the results would be floods happening often, however animals will lose their habitats. Also people will die by either diseases or drowning. Not only will there be floods but our vegetation will be affected too.

What will happen if there were no more trees that bear fruit? Then people will be affected too. Nutrition helps humans survive. If there were no fruits, we would die.

People cut down forests for farmlands, roads, parks. They also cut down trees to grow more crops to sell for money. Humans also cut trees to make paper and other products, they use wood to make furniture as well. Men are too greedy to realize that it is important to have trees.

We can stop deforestation by cutting down the right amount of trees and start planting more trees. Another solution is by convincing the government's to have more reserve parks so that there will be more trees in the future.

A fossil discovery

It has been suspected by researchers for a long time that hippos evolved from plant eating semi-aquatic mammal.
They couldn't confirm this theory because the ancient fossils were discovered 15 million years ago and this led to the change.

They were led to find fossils because of their curiosity. It was helpful to discover teeth because the molar patterns on a mammals teeth are unique. The ancient mammal weighed 220 pounds. They believe it is a relative to the modern day hippo. It is called the African mammal because zebras, giraffes, lions and antelopes are not from Africa. People think they are but really they aren't. They are from Asia. Except for the hippo the rest of the animals are not from Africa.

The Keepers' Daughter

The Keepers' Daughter is about a girl named Nyssa. Nyssa had lost her family from an attack by a clan called the 'Shadowmen'. Their leader is a dangerous man who only cares for power. He had heard of the keepers, that were very intelligent and knew secrets. For years the keepers have been hiding their secrets and have hidden in the shadows so that they may be safe from the shadowmen. The shadowmen were able to rule over thousands of people. Now the shadowmen are back to haunt the keepers that are still living. Nyssa and her uncle, Marius and the couple that had raised her were all keepers. It was up to them to stop the shadowmen.

I like this book because it has a lot of detail and it makes me believe as if I was actually there with them, fighting the shadowmen. My favourite part is when Nyssa kept dreaming about her twin brother she never knew she had. It is my favourite part because it reminds me of my own sibling.

I recommend this book to children 10 and over. For those who are interested, this book is about a girl who tries to survive in a dangerous world with some help from family and friends.
